UAF presents the documentary film "The Game of the Indestructible"
"«The Indestructible Game»" — this is a documentary film about a year of Ukrainian football during wartime.
The life stories of heroes vividly reveal the theme of fighting for the survival of a beloved game. The plot of the episode clearly illustrates how Ukrainian football not only survived and stood its ground but also became ambitious about new goals and achievements — from restoring club competitions at all levels to jointly submitting an application with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup.
Indeed, in the episode, players of the Ukraine national team share their own drama that the team went through during 2022. Memories are complemented by stories from the locker room by Taras Stepanenko. Meanwhile, it is difficult for captain Andriy Yarmolenko to recall the bombardments that his native Chernihiv region suffered, and Oleksandr Karavaev — the period when his parents were in occupation in their hometown of Kherson.
Dmitry Kubrjak also has his own life story. He is a football referee who selflessly saved the lives of Ukrainian soldiers in Mariupol, passing through the Ilich Combine and Azovstal, and later found himself in a prisoner camp in Oleksandriya colony. His colleague Irina Petrenko also showed bravery and after anti-Russian protests in occupied Novo-Kakhivka ended up in prison. After release, both referees continue to serve for the benefit of football. As does our female referee Kateryna Monzul, who during the full-scale war had the honor of representing our refereeing corps on an international stage. The Ukrainian worked at the Women's European Championship, where she was entrusted with officiating the tournament final.
A fruitful year was spent by First Vice President of the UAF Oleksiy Mykhaylichenko and Vice President Vasyl Orlytskyi, who were involved in evacuating the legionnaires of "Dynamo" and "Shakhtar," as well as attracting international humanitarian aid for those affected by the war and military personnel.
Football activities were combined with military service in 2022 by two goals of regional associations. Taras Yurik from the Ternopil region volunteered to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while Viktor Kovalenko defended the Kharkiv region's borders as head of a district military administration.
The true proof of our football's resilience was Ukraine's application to become a co-host for the 2030 World Cup. And it is precisely this mission that the Ukrainian Football Association, headed by its president and UEFA Executive Committee member Andriy Pyvovar, is now working on.
In short, the film episode is worth your attention, so we invite you to watch and wish you pleasant viewing!
