President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, speaking about a rescue operation in Brovary and the epicenter of the most brutal and principled battles on the eastern front of the country.
"Ukrainians! Ukrainian women!
Another day passes in this terrible war, these tragedies that our people are enduring. A horrific day that we must go through and endure. And we will endure it.
Almost nine hours long was the rescue operation in Brovary, Kyiv region, at the site of the DSN helicopter crash. Hundreds of people were involved in extinguishing fires, searching for survivors, providing first aid, and conducting preliminary investigative actions. Our rescuers, our police officers, National Guard fighters, medics, psychologists, and Security Service of Ukraine employees.
I thank everyone who was involved in this rescue operation today.
Now I want to personally thank the kindergarten teachers whose territory the helicopter landed on. Mrs. Ruslana, Mrs. Olha, Mrs. Tamara, Mrs. Kateryna and all the staff of the kindergarten - thank you! Thank you for your clear actions in evacuating children.
I also want to thank ordinary residents of Brovary, including Mrs. Diana, Mrs. Nadiya and others who helped both children and injured people.
I thank Glib and Andriy - the boys who did not lose their heads and helped as well.
25 people were injured, including 11 children. Fourteen people died, among them one child. My condolences to all those who lost loved ones!
The Security Service of Ukraine has initiated a criminal investigation into this terrible incident. I have instructed the head of the Security Service of Ukraine to work together with other authorized agencies to clarify all circumstances of the disaster. All necessary decisions regarding the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were made today. We lost people who were professionals, patriots, reliable leaders. Minister Denis Monastyrskyi, Yevhenii Einen, and their colleagues who died in the catastrophe - these are not people that can be easily replaced. A great loss for the state. My condolences to relatives.
Temporary leadership of the ministry will be carried out by the head of the National Police of Ukraine. Also, responsibilities were distributed which the minister was responsible for in the context of our defensive operation and ensuring state security. Border situation, frontline territory, involvement of the National Guard and police in combat operations - control is maintained.
As soon as clear facts about what led to the disaster are established, we will provide this information.
As always, I was in contact with our military throughout the day. The situation on the front remains severe; the epicenter of the most brutal and principled battles is in Donbas.
We are gradually fixing an increase in the number of shelling attempts and offensive actions by occupiers.
Thank you to all our fighters who hold positions! Thank you to the 68th Separate Jäger Brigade and the 36th Separate Marine Infantry Brigade for very effective enemy strikes and the necessary steadfastness precisely in Donbas!
I also thank subunits of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense for actions that reduce the chances of occupiers.
Today it was announced that Canada is preparing a powerful package of military aid for our country. In particular, it will include armored vehicles. This is very timely and significant. I thank Canada for its unwavering support and for working together now to prepare for Russia's attempts to intensify strikes. No one in the world today can remain unaware of the plans of the state-terrorist.
I participated in a forum in Davos. The message from Ukraine is very simple and honest: no one has the luxury to delay now.
I know that soon there will be new and truly necessary steps to support our defense. We will do everything so that such steps are as many as needed for defeating terrorists.
Glory to all our warriors!
Eternal glory to all Ukrainians, eternal glory to all Ukrainian women who died because of the war unleashed by Russia!
Glory to Ukraine!"
