To your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00 on January 5, 2023 regarding the Russian invasion of our country.

Glory to Ukraine! The one hundred sixty-third day of Russia's large-scale invasion has begun.

Over the past day, Russian occupiers carried out three missile strikes, 13 air raids, and 68 shelling attacks with multiple rocket launchers, including on civilian infrastructure in the cities of Bakhmut, Kostiantynivka, and Kurakhove in the Donetsk region; Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk oblast and Kherson. There are casualties among civilians.

The threat of enemy air and missile strikes remains across all of Ukraine's territory.

The enemy continues to concentrate efforts on advancing along the Bakhmut direction. On the Avdiivka and Kupyansk directions, after offensive actions, there was no success. On the Novopavlivsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson directions, it continues active defense, shelling our positions and civilian objects along the line of contact.

Over the past day, units of the Defense Forces repelled attacks by occupiers in the areas of the settlements of Stelmakhivka and Ploschanka in the Luhansk region and Bihorivka, Siversk, Krasna Gora, Viyimka, Podgordne, Bakhmut, Kurdyumivka, Mayoriv, North, Vodyane, Krasnogorivka, Vesela, Mariinka, and Pobedy in the Donetsk region.

On the Volyn, Polissya, Northern, and Slobozhansky directions no signs of forming offensive groupings by the enemy have been detected.

On the Northern and Slobozhansky directions, tank, mortar, and artillery shelling was experienced in the areas of the settlements of Kamianka Sloboda in Chernihiv region; Kustyn, Mayske, and Pavlivka in Sumy region, as well as Krasnoe, Starytsia, Ogirceve, Gatische, Vovchanskyi, Ustynivka, and Figolivka in Kharkiv region.

On the Kupyansk and Lyman directions, areas of more than 20 populated places were hit by fire. Among them are Ivanivka, Kupyansk, Dvorichna, Vilschan, Kislivka, Kotliarivka, and Khromyale in Kharkiv region, as well as Makieivka, Ploschanka, and Diabrova in Luhansk region.

On the Bakhmut and Avdiivka directions, areas of more than 40 populated places were shelled. This includes Verkhnyokamyanske, Bihorivka, Bakhmut, White Mountain, Dilyeivka, Avdiivka, Nevelske, Krasnogorivka, Mariinka, and Novomikhailovka in the Donetsk region.

On the Novopavlivsk direction, enemy fire was recorded near the settlements of Zolotaya Niva, Vuhledar, Mikhilske Dachi, and Prechystivka in the Donetsk region.

On the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, areas of more than 45 populated places were affected by fire. Civilian infrastructure in the settlements of Poltavka, Hulyaypole, Mala Tokmachka, and Stebneve in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as Kherson, Novosilka, Tyagynka, and Sadove in the Kherson region suffered from tank, mortar, and artillery shelling.

Forced integration of temporarily occupied and seized territories into Russian legal space is ongoing. Thus, in Gorlovka city in Donetsk region, the term for issuing passports of the Russian pattern has been reduced from 30 to 10 days. In addition, number plates and driver's licenses of Russian Federation patterns are being issued in the region.

The Air Force of the Defense Forces carried out 20 strikes on enemy concentration areas over the past day, as well as five strikes on positions of its air defense missile systems.

Over the previous day, units of Anti-Aircraft Missile Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a Russian Su-25 ground attack aircraft, an attack helicopter Ka-52, and an Orlan-10 tactical unmanned aerial vehicle on the eastern front.

Soldiers of missile forces and artillery of the Defense Forces carried out fire strikes on three command points, four areas of concentration of manpower and military equipment, and two ammunition depots of the enemy.
