President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, speaking about several waves of occupier missile strikes on New Year's Eve and the excellent work of our air defense forces.

"December 31... Today's day, this Russian missile attack — it is not the end of the year as the terrorists would like. It is the end for Russia itself.

A state-terrorist will not be forgiven. And those who give orders for such strikes and those who carry them out will not receive amnesty, to put it mildly.

Several waves of missile strikes on New Year's Eve. Missiles against the people. Against the people exactly.

This was done by inhumane individuals. Inhumane individuals lose. And we know this with you. Terrorists cannot change that now.

They did such strikes on Easter, Christmas, New Year's... They call themselves Christians and boast of their Orthodoxy. But they are with the devil. They are for him and with him.

And I will say this in Russian as well. 

All this war that you wage, Russia, it is not against NATO, as your propagandists lie. It is not about some historical cause.

It is so that one person can remain in power for the rest of his life. And what will be left of all of you, citizens of Russia, does not concern him at all.

Your leader wants to show that he has soldiers behind him and that he is ahead. But he hides instead. He hides behind the soldiers, behind the missiles, behind the walls of his residences and palaces. 

He hides behind you and burns your country and your future himself. Terrorism will never be forgiven by anyone in the world. Ukraine will never forgive.

And you yourselves will not forgive him for all that he destroys and kills. 

Citizens of Ukraine! 

All our services are working where there were strikes. We provide help to those who suffered. Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv at this time...

Sadly, there are casualties. My condolences to the families...

Most of the missiles were shot down by our air defense forces. And that saved lives. If not for the air defenses, the level of losses would have been different. Much higher. And this is another proof to the world that Ukraine's support needs to be increased.

I thank all partners who helped with air defenses. IRIS-T, Crotale, NASAMS, Hawk, MANPADS "Perun", Mistral and others. Next year will have Patriots. This year many S-300s were also received. 

Each of these systems is an antidote to terror, what shows the strength of normal people and the futility of terrorists. Weapons against terror are a means of peace.

And every day — today is no exception — we free our own. 140 people returned from Russian captivity today. 22 officers, 118 enlisted men and sergeants. In total since February 24, we have returned home 1596 Ukrainians.

Thank you to my team! Thank you to everyone who defends Ukraine! To all of you on the front lines today! Thank you to everyone fighting for our country!

Thank you air defense forces! And please, citizens, do not ignore sirens.

Thank you to our energy workers — everyone who repairs damage from terrorist attacks.
