After victories over Kosovo (1:0) and Cyprus (4:1), the blue-and-yellow team secured their place in the elite round. They played their final match in group 3 in the Swedish city of Norrköping, where they faced the hosts of the mini-tournament.
The Ukrainians won with a score of 2:0 thanks to goals from Yaromlyuk and Khodov, thereby securing first place in their group. Now the blue-and-yellow team awaits the draw for the elite round, which will take place on December 8.
As a reminder, the top two teams from each of the thirteen groups and the best third-place finisher (based on results against the first and second-placed teams in their group) will join the elite round in Portugal in spring 2023. Malta's national team has earned an automatic spot to the final stage as hosts of the tournament, along with winners from seven groups in the elite round.
