Before the scheduled match between Polissya and Karpaty, Zhytomyr's football team outperformed their main rivals in the Group A leadership race by one point. As they say in such cases, six points were at stake.
The visitors put up resistance only in the first half but failed to neutralize Polissya’s striker Pilyap Budkivskyi, who opened the scoring in his usual style. Soon, Galician stopper Igor Duts could have equalized from close range but missed.
After halftime, the hosts completely controlled the game's flow on the field. They were further boosted by a second goal scored by Bohdan Kushnirenko, who capitalized on an error by Karpaty’s goalkeeper Roman Lopka. The players of Yuri Kalitvinets deservedly took the lead — 2:0, although after the final whistle, the guests' head coach Andrii Tlumak did not hide his dissatisfaction with the refereeing. Polissya has now pulled ahead even more so because Epitsentr, which held third place, conceded in Ivano-Frankivsk. The Carpathians took the lead early on after Vasyl Tsytsuro converted a penalty (1:0).
In Group B, favorites Obolon and LNZ continue to rack up wins. Notably, the "brewer" Oleksiy Slobozhan opened the scoring in the match against Metallurg, initiated an attack that ended with a second goal for his team, and made a decisive pass leading to the defeat of the Zaporizhzhia side. However, the metallurgists could have scored a prestige goal but their striker Oleksiy Sydorov failed to convert a penalty (3:0).
Today's round concluded with matches in Ternopil and Poltava. The players of Niva took the lead even before halftime, dictated terms throughout the second half as well, and their victory over Bukovyna can be considered justified (1:0). And Skoruk confirmed that it is an awkward opponent for "city dwellers." It twice beat them when they were competing in the second league and did not disappoint itself when the teams promoted to a higher class. The hero of this encounter was Skoruk's versatile player Oleksandr Mishurenko, who completed a hat-trick. It should be noted that this is the first victory for Oleksandr Stepanov’s team in this season (3:1).
