In the 6th round of the First League championship, attention was primarily drawn to the Western Ukrainian derby in Lviv, where "Karpaty" hosted "Prykarpattia." The hosts had no right to lose points against another potential contender for a place in the top quartet after their defeat by "Epizentru."
The rivals did not waste time on reconnaissance. The score was opened by Prykarpattia when Vasyl Tsiutsiura converted a penalty awarded for handball in the hosts' penalty area. Fortunately for Lviv, they quickly restored parity when after Artur Ryabov's long shot the ball found its way into the visitors' net.
And in the second half, Andriy Tlumak's wards did celebrate a deserved victory when Rostyslav Taranukha was first to react to a rebound — 2:1.
"Matches between 'Karpaty' and 'Prykarpattia' always take place in fierce competition," said the director of Lviv's club Stepan Yurchishin after the final whistle. "This match was no exception. It pleases me that the Lvivians, finding themselves in a chasing role, did not give up, stepped up their pace and managed to break through."
In this same Group A, another match between geographical neighbors took place in Dunaivtsi where "Epizentru" met Ternopil's "Niva." At the end of the match, the hosts saved themselves from defeat but lost crucial points — 1:1.
Also noteworthy is "Bukovyna," which recorded its first victory over another outsider, "Mariupol" (3:1).
And in Group B, the favorites continue to rack up wins — "Obolon" and "LNZ."
