England's national team coach Gareth Southgate commented on today's draw for the qualification tournament of the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
Today, the draw for the Euro-2024 qualification took place at the Festhalle in Frankfurt am Main. By the draw's luck, Ukraine ended up in Group C along with Italy, England, North Macedonia, and Malta.
The head coach of the English national team, Gareth Southgate, commented on the results of the draw.
'Well, this is clearly a tough draw considering the quality of opponents. Alright then, we've had somewhat more comfortable draws before, and now here it is. Though, to be fair, Poland and Hungary in our World Cup qualifying group were also challenging.
We know the strength of Italy's national team and the depth of its squad, and England's statistics against Italy overall are not very good, so we need to improve that.
We remember that Ukraine reached the quarter-finals of Euro-2020 where they lost to England by irony of fate at the Olympic Stadium in Rome. At the same time, North Macedonia beat Italy in a World Cup playoff match earlier this year. All of this adds even more intrigue,'— said Gareth Southgate.
