In the final match of the 2022/2023 Nations League, Ukraine drew with Scotland (0:0) and failed to qualify for Division A. After the game, captain Andriy Yarmolenko evaluated this result.

"We didn't win, we didn't achieve the necessary result, but I am proud of being here, I am proud of the guys who fought on the football field. We did what we agreed upon before the match - not to lose the battle and the ball control. I think we played quite well considering the weather conditions. The pitch was not in the best condition. But this is no excuse whatsoever. This is football. Sometimes you score an illogical goal and win, sometimes you create many opportunities but don't score. If I or Artem Dovbyk had scored in the first half, the game would have been a bit different. But sometimes you win, sometimes - you lose. We need to move forward, nothing terrible happened."

I think that fans on the stands were satisfied. They saw the most important thing - that we fight for this badge on our chests, for the shirt we wear. I want to express a big thank you to them for coming to support us in such weather during these difficult times. We felt the support at a top level.

Of course, there's disappointment because we created several good opportunities and didn't score. These moments decided the fate of our group. So it's somewhat sad, but repeating myself, the guys gave everything they had, were very upset in the changing room. However, we need to lift our heads up and move forward. We played against a strong opponent. Scotland is showing good football, many of their players play in the English Premier League. I believe that we played quite well.

My 112nd match for the national team? I remember all the games. Each game in the national team for me - as if it were my last one. I always give everything I have. I just want to thank all my teammates, with whom I played and will play, fans - for support and criticism. This means a lot to me. When Oleksandr Vasylyovych handed me this shirt, I barely held back the tears. I wanted to say something but remained silent because I would have cried. It means a lot to me.

We will work hard. Football is such a thing that you just need to work and then results will come. We gave everything we had. Sometimes you score from half an opportunity and win. Sometimes you create 10 goal-scoring opportunities but can't score. That's what beautiful football is. So let's move forward, nothing terrible happened. I think fans were satisfied with our play, although not the result, just like us," - Yarmolenko said after the match in Krakow.
