President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, informing about potential threats from the enemy during our main holidays and about the state's reaction to a possible despicable trial in Mariupol.
"Good evening, citizens of Ukraine,
All our defenders!
The 180th day of our defense and a new week begins.
A week that we look forward to every year because it is the time of our main holiday, Ukraine's Independence Day. And this week the occupiers certainly did not expect such... They could never imagine that even now, half a year into such a harsh war, we would be on our land and in our capital celebrating our independence.
But it is so. This is our land. This is our independence that no one can break or take away from us. And you know this. Everyone in Ukraine feels it. 180 days - almost half a year - the vast majority of our people do not doubt that we will reach victory for Ukraine.
We are united, and we are more confident than ever in decades. And this is one of the foundations of our strength, our power.
Therefore, it is one of the main targets for Russian terrorists. They strike at the feelings of Ukrainians, at the wounds in the hearts of our people just as much as they do to our cities... They hit harshly and cynically. But with another kind of weapon. Not only propaganda, not only lies. Humiliating people, all those who suffer most, struggle hardest - this is one of the terrible means of pressure that has become routine for Russia.
And now there are enough reports in the media about how they are preparing decorations for an absolutely despicable and absurd trial of Ukrainian defenders, our soldiers who are in captivity with the occupiers, in Mariupol.
Whatever the occupiers may think or plan, the state's reaction will be absolutely clear. If this despicable trial takes place, if our people are brought into these decorations under all violations of agreements and international rules - it will be humiliation... This will be the line beyond which any negotiations are impossible. Russia will cut itself off from negotiations. No more talks. Our state has said everything.
All partners of Ukraine have been informed about what a terrorist state may prepare for this week.
Today I spoke with President Macron about all the threats. Turkish President Erdogan is also informed about everything. The UN Secretary-General, who is confident, will react as well. They and other world leaders received appropriate signals from us. Everyone understands everything. They understand what the occupiers are doing and what it threatens. And they understand that Ukraine will not tolerate this. Will not tolerate humiliation of people whom we can only say one thing about: they are heroes of their Motherland, they defended the freedom of their nation from oppressors on their land.
Even in war there must be rules. The world's powers will certainly have enough to put any state or terrorist under these rules.
And all of us - all Ukrainians - should remember one thing: whatever happens, our goal is victory.
Whatever happens, we go for victory through everything.
Whatever happens, glory to all our soldiers!
Ukraine above all!
Glory to Ukraine!"
