A week ago in Łódź, the teams played to a scoreless draw, so the fate of advancing to the second qualifying round of the Champions League was decided in Istanbul. Mircea Lucescu opted to field the same starting lineup as in the first match.
The home team took control at the start of the game. In the 2nd minute, Yuksek shot from a rebound dangerously but missed the target. Later, King sent the ball into the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for Fenerbahçe due to a foul by Valensia on Zabarny in an earlier phase of the attack.
Budzan's goal was also sought by Valensia and Rossi, though their shots lacked accuracy. Kahveci missed the post from a penalty kick at the 20th minute. Later, King found himself alone with Budzan but shot too poorly. Dynamo responded with a Cigangov throw-in, but Victor failed to push the ball past the goalkeeper.

Immediately after halftime, Fenerbahçe created several dangerous moments, including Valensia's shot from a free kick that curled near the post. At 53 minutes, the Turks went down to ten men when Yuksek received his second yellow card for a foul on Boyalyskyi.
The blue-whites immediately took advantage of their numerical superiority — after Kendziora's cross and shot, Boyalyskyi scored the opening goal. On 70 minutes, Fenerbahçe had a chance to level when Popov fouled Valensia in his own penalty area, but the injured player missed the penalty kick against Budzan.
Shortly after, Cigangov had a good moment, but Victor shot directly into the goalkeeper's hands. At 78 minutes, Budzan again came to Dynamo's rescue with an acrobatic save from Salai's header. Later, Dubynchak narrowly missed the post with a long-range shot. However, Fenerbahçe equalized near the end of regular time — after a corner kick, Salai scored.

The game went into extra time where Dynamo had the upper hand. On 99 minutes, Bayindir parried Shepeliev's shot and Zabarny failed to score an empty net goal. Shortly after, Illia headed in Cigangov's cross — Fenerbahçe was saved by the post.
The decisive moment of the match came on 114 minutes — Lucescu's substitutes brought victory to Dynamo. Debutant Vycharenko crossed from the left flank, and Karavaev scored despite a goalkeeper error. Fenerbahçe had an opportunity to take the game into penalties but Budsan held off Dursun's dangerous header.
