Today, June 1, the national team of Ukraine will have its third latest start in a calendar year in history — Alexander Petракov's team will play against the hosts in Glasgow, Scotland, in a semi-final match of the World Cup 2022 qualifier playoff.

The reason for this late start is known — Russia initiated a war against Ukraine.

Later than in 2022, the national team started only twice. The record was set during the pandemic year of 2020. Prior to that, the long-held leader was 1998. Then our team first took the field only in mid-July.

In February, the blue and yellow played their first match of the year eleven times, in March — twelve.

Only official matches at the national level under FIFA are considered.
