After winning in Group F of the European qualification for the 2025 World Cup against Norway (8:2, 6:2) and losing to Poland (1:8), Ukraine's beach soccer team finished second in the 1/8 finals of the qualification tournament. Unfortunately, there they were defeated by France (4:5 OT) and failed to secure a spot in the final stage of the World Cup.

The performance of Ukraine's team at the Cadiz competitions was commented on by the coach, Mykola Kostenko.

"Of course, we expected a different result. Due to various reasons, the national team approached this important tournament in an unoptimal state. Six players from the main lineup were unable to participate in the matches. However, newcomers to the national team made a good impression, as evidenced by the games against Norway. Unfortunately, experience was lacking against the more powerful Polish team, but the game with France was even. Only a late mistake denied our team a chance to advance further.

I would like to note that the tournament was very interesting and unpredictable in terms of results. No one could have predicted Italy's victory over Switzerland in the decisive match for World Cup qualification—12:0. Despite Switzerland being almost at full strength, except for Ott. France lost to Spain, who were considered favorites, only after a penalty shootout. And Denmark's team put up a fight against experienced Italy and won in extra time.

In general, beach soccer is developing dynamically. For several years now, it has demonstrated high-level play and continuous progress from the Danish national team. Estonia's team looked very organized. And I would like to thank them again for refusing to play against Belarus. The teams of Italy and Poland showcased excellent physical condition and speed in their game. Portugal's national team is undoubtedly the leader not only in Europe but also worldwide.

I would also like to highlight the consistent and strict adherence to rules by the referees, which has significantly increased the number of yellow cards, encouraging players to be more cautious in defense, improving discipline, and reducing injuries,"— said Mykola Kostenko.
