Ukraine women’s beach soccer team concludes group stage with loss to Czechia in Euroleague Superfinal

Today, the Ukraine women’s beach soccer team played their final group stage match in the 2024 Women's Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal, held in the Italian town of Alghero.

Having lost their previous matches against Portugal (3:4) and Italy (0:1), Yuriy Klymenko’s squad had already been eliminated from contention for the Euroleague-2024 medals. However, the fight for final placement and BSWW ranking points continued, and today our team faced the Czechia in their last Group A match.

For this match, the Ukrainian team wore black armbands as a mark of respect. The game began with a moment of silence for the brother of our player, Snizhana Volovenko — Oleksandr  — who was killed in action fighting against the Russian invaders. Eternal glory to the hero who sacrificed his life for Ukraine's freedom and independence!

Despite this, Snizhana participated in the match. Additionally, Yuliya Kostyuk, who missed the previous game against Italy due to suspension, returned to the lineup.

The first period was closely contested. Both teams created dangerous chances, but neither managed to score.

Unfortunately, the second 12-minute period proved disastrous for the Ukrainians, resulting in two goals conceded within 30 seconds. First, Anastasiya Terekh made a simple error near her own goal, passing the ball directly to Veronika Pykhova. Almost immediately, Iryna Dubytska repeated the mistake, this time with Mikaela Novotna — 0:2.

In the final period, another mistake by our goalkeeper led to the third goal for the Czech team. The match ended with a 0:3 defeat for the Blue and Yellow team.

As a result, Yuriy Klymenko’s team finished fourth in Group A and will compete for the fifth to eighth places. The Ukrainian women’s next match in the tournament will be on September 14, with their opponent to be determined later.
