Ukraine women's beach soccer team falls to Italy, misses out on Euroleague medals

Today, the Ukraine women's beach soccer team played their second match in the 2024 Women's Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal, taking place in Alghero, Italy.

Yesterday, under the guidance of Yuriy Klymenko, the team narrowly lost to Portugal (3:4). Today, they faced the host team, Italy.

In the first period, despite the absence of their leader Yuliya Kostyuk, who was suspended for the match, the Ukrainian team dominated the game. They had several dangerous shots on goal, but the Italian goalkeeper was up to the task. Conversely, Italy’s only dangerous attack resulted in a goal — Debora Naticioni scored with a bicycle kick.

The second 12-minute period continued from where the first left off. Our team attacked more but failed to score. The best chance was missed by Irina Bavzenyuk, who was in front of an open goal but couldn’t find the net.

In the final period, there was intense combat, but defense overshadowed attack. Ultimately, the Ukrainian team could not equalize, losing 0:1. With this result, Yuriy Klymenko's team has lost all chances to compete for medals in the 2024 Women's Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal and will now fight for fifth to eighth place.

The next match for the Ukrainian team will be against Czechia on September 13.
