Ukraine futsal team dominates Cuba in Portugal tournament
Today, August 23, Ukraine's futsal team continued participating in the international tournament in Portugal with a match against Cuba.
As part of their preparation for the 2024 World Cup, Oleksandr Kosenko's squad arrived in the Portuguese city of Viseu to compete in a four-team tournament (all participants are World Cup-bound). In their opening match, Ukraine defeated Costa Rica 4:0, and now they faced Cuba.
The Blue and Yellows opened the scoring in the 7th minute when the Cuban goalkeeper made a mistake, allowing Mykytiuk to find the net from a Zvarych assist. Shortly after, Shved doubled the lead by finishing off a rebound after an Abakshyn shot. Just before the break, Abakshyn missed a great opportunity to further extend the lead.
In the 26th minute, Ukraine scored their third goal after a set-piece, with Zvarych finishing from a Pedyash pass. Zvarych struck again soon after, this time from a corner, assisted by Pedyash. Towards the end of the match, Ukraine added three more goals, with Semenchenko and Korsun finding the net, and Cuba scoring an own goal. The final score was a resounding 7:0 victory for the Blue and Yellows.
Ukraine's final match in Viseu will be on August 25 against Portugal, starting at 20:00 Kyiv time.

The final tournament of the 2024 Futsal World Cup, featuring Ukraine, will take place from September 14 to October 6 in three Uzbek cities — Andijan, Bukhara, and Tashkent. Fourteen players will be included in Ukraine’s World Cup roster.
