Ukraine futsal team victorious against Costa Rica in Portugal

Today, on August 22, the Ukraine national futsal team began their campaign at an international tournament in Portugal with a match against Costa Rica.

As part of their preparation for the 2024 World Cup, Oleksandr Kosenko's squad arrived in the Portuguese city of Viseu to compete in a four-team tournament, all participants of the upcoming World Cup. The first opponent for the Blue and Yellows was Costa Rica.

Ukraine took control from the outset, and in the 3rd minute, Abakshyn, assisted by Semenchenko, scored from the left flank to open the scoring. Later, Semenchenko himself found the back of the net after Sukhov’s throw, with the opposing goalkeeper deflecting the ball straight to Rostyslav’s foot. The Ukrainians had a chance to score a third before halftime.

At the start of the second half, Costa Rica missed a few opportunities, with Sukhov making key saves. In the 29th minute, Shoturma increased Ukraine’s lead with a sharp-angle finish from a Korsun assist. In the closing moments, Farenyuk, assisted by Pedyash, sealed the final score at 4:0.

Ukraine's next match in Viseu is scheduled for tomorrow, against Cuba, with the kickoff at 22:30 Kyiv time.

The final tournament of the 2024 Futsal World Cup, featuring Ukraine, will take place from September 14 to October 6 in three Uzbek cities — Andijan, Bukhara, and Tashkent. Fourteen players will be included in Ukraine’s World Cup roster.
