To your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 6:00 on January 5, 2024 regarding the Russian invasion of our country.

Glory to Ukraine! The six hundred eighty-first day of Russia's large-scale military aggression against Ukraine has begun.

The enemy continues to ignore laws and customs of war, uses terror tactics, carries out missile and air strikes, and shells both military positions and numerous civilian objects in our country with multiple rocket launchers.

During the past day, 59 combat engagements took place. In total, the enemy carried out seven missile and 36 air strikes, conducted 37 shelling operations with multiple rocket launchers on positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are fatalities and injuries among civilians. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed.

During the night, Russian occupiers once again attacked Ukraine with Shahed-136/131 strike drones. Combat work by Ukrainian air defense forces and means continues; results will be reported later.

Air strikes hit Novomikhailivka and Georgiyevka in the Donetsk region, Novodarivka and Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Zmiyivka in the Kherson region.

Artillery fire affected nearly 100 populated areas in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.

In the area of responsibility of OSUM "North" on the Volynian and Polesian directions, the operational situation remains unchanged.

On the Northern and Slobozhansky directions the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent our troops from redeploying to threatening sectors, increases mine-explosive barriers along the state border in Belgorod region.

In the area of responsibility of OSUM "Khortytsia" on the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled four attacks by occupiers near Sinkyvka and east of Petropavlivka in Kharkiv region.

On the Lyman direction the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) operations.

On the Bakhmut direction our soldiers repelled four attacks by the enemy in the areas of Bogdanivka, Klyshchyvka and Andriyivka in Donetsk region.

In the area of responsibility of OSUM "Tavria" on the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy who does not give up attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers firmly hold their defense, inflicting significant losses on aggressors. Thus, forces of defense repelled 16 attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Stepanovo, Avdiivka and another 16 attacks in the areas of Pervomaiskoye and Nevelskoye in Donetsk region over the past day.

On the Mariupol direction our defenders continue to hold back the enemy near Mariupol and Novomikhailivka in Donetsk region, where seven attacks were repelled.

On the Shakhtarsk direction occupiers did not conduct offensive (assault) operations.

On the Zaporizhzhia direction, forces of defense repelled eight attacks by the enemy in the area of Robotino and northwest of Verbovskoye in Zaporizhzhia region.

In the area of responsibility of OSUM "Odessa" on the Kherson direction, Ukrainian soldiers continue to conduct actions for expanding their foothold. Despite significant losses, the enemy does not give up attempts to drive our units from occupied positions. Over the past day, the enemy carried out six unsuccessful assault operations.

At the same time, our soldiers continue active actions inflicting casualties and equipment losses on occupying forces along the entire front line.

During the past day, aviation of defensive forces delivered strikes at 10 areas of concentration of personnel and two command points of the enemy.

Subunits of rocket troops damaged air defense means, area of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, four artillery systems, two radio-electronic warfare stations and three command posts of the enemy.
