President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, speaking about his working visit to the Zhytomyr region and his meeting with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.
"I wish health to all dear Ukrainians!
Returned to Kyiv from a trip to Zhytomyr, basically worked there the whole day.
First of all — the visit by Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas. Talks, signing of a joint declaration. I am grateful to Prime Minister Kallas and the entire people of Estonia for their clear and unwavering support for our movement towards the European Union and NATO — relevant points about the Alliance are in the declaration.
Today we focused mostly on defense issues, which is understandable. Estonia is among those whose aid to our defense has been quickest and largest, if you look at the ratio of aid volume to country's GDP. This applies to artillery for our artillery units, ammunition, weapons for our air defenders… Many aspects.
We discussed decisions regarding arms and ammunition that are still pending implementation by other partners in the EU. In this case, the speed of delivery, the execution of already adopted decisions directly affects people's lives. I thank Estonia for its readiness to facilitate communication with other partners.
Zhytomyr was chosen as a venue for our talks not by chance. It is in Zhytomyr region that a reconstruction project has been implemented, giving Estonia priority — priority in how quickly the agreements are being realized. In the city of Ovruch in Zhytomyr region, the reconstruction of a kindergarten will be completed by June 1st with Estonian help. This project will be further expanded. There are other reconstruction projects as well — I am confident that we will implement everything.
It was very pleasant to visit Zhytomyr Polytechnic — to talk with university students. A great university — it feels like they really care about the students. They care about Ukraine — considering how the university prepares various specialists for the country.
Thank you everyone who attended the meeting at the polytechnic, those who asked questions and responded sincerely to answers. Good, energetic communication. This is exactly what we are choosing now for all of Ukraine — so that all our children, Ukrainian students and student women in every part of our country can feel free, enjoy freedom, obtain education and realize themselves in life as they wish. And this will happen. Ukraine will defend its freedom.
I held a special coordination meeting with everyone responsible for the region in Zhytomyr. We thoroughly examined security, economic and social situation in the region. There are decisions — including on restoring energy after Russian strikes. And we are already preparing our energy system for next winter.
There are also decisions regarding educational infrastructure — today's meeting was attended by Minister of Education and Science. Of course, we will help our regions, Zhytomyr region in particular, with school buses.
Special attention was paid to the border. There was a report from the head of Zhytomyr regional military administration and chief of State Border Guard Service. Security, border infrastructure, situation overall. Thank you all who ensure us this strength of our state border.
By the way, I would like to highlight today our border guards — those who together with all forces defending our country protect Ukraine on the frontline. There is much to be grateful for. Lugansk and Kramatorsk Border Guard Units — thank you soldiers for your steadfastness in Bakhmut! Lviv Border Guard Unit — thank you boys, for your strength on the Avdiivka axis! Kherson and Berdiansk Border Guard Units — thank you for successfully completing tasks in the south of our country. Well done!
Glory to all our soldiers who are now at war, on combat posts, on combat missions!
Thank you everyone who helps Ukraine defend itself from Russian evil!
Thank you Zhytomyr for today's day.
Glory to Ukraine!»
