On June 12, the German national team will continue its social mission of supporting people and organizations in Ukraine affected by Russia's aggressive war through a charitable game. The match against the Ukrainians will be the first international match in Bremen since 2012.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorff noted: "1,000 international matches — this is history that we want to celebrate with a game of peace. Our national team has played many important matches in its biography. Playing our 1,000th international match in friendship with Ukraine clearly demonstrates that the football family stands firmly with our Ukrainian friends. We are proud to be celebrating this anniversary together with and for Ukraine."
In turn, sporting director Rudi Feller emphasized: "Thanks to the 1,000th international match of the DFB's national men's team, we can look back on an eventful history. The 'Weserstadion' offers ideal conditions for this special anniversary game, through which we can not only demonstrate our support for Ukraine but also provide very concrete help and collect donations."
President of the UAF, UEFA Executive Committee member Andriy Pavelko noted: "The football community in Ukraine is grateful to our German friends for making this match a charitable one, with the DFB planning to donate the proceeds to support Ukrainians affected by Russian military aggression. Also thankful to my German colleague and FIFA Council member Bernd Neuendorf for the serious support already provided to Ukraine! For the UAF and the Ukrainian national team, it will be an especially honorable mission to jointly celebrate the 1000th match of the German national team with the German national team. We appreciate our friendship and are grateful for the support!"
It should be noted that since the start of the aggressive war, DFB and the German national team have participated in various aid activities for those affected by the war in Ukraine. Last year, the Egidius Braun Foundation (DFB Foundation named after former DFB president and UEFA vice-president Egidius Braun), together with partners, allocated over 10 million euros to social projects in Ukraine. The foundation has been actively operating in Ukraine since its establishment in 2001. In addition to other activities, the Egidius Braun DFB Foundation, in cooperation with the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, supports football clubs that help children, youth, and women who were forced to leave Ukraine. So far, more than 500 German football clubs have already received a fixed financial bonus for helping Ukrainian refugees.
The proceeds from the charitable game with Ukraine will go to the DFB Foundation, which continues to help people affected by Russian military aggression. Specific aid projects and initiatives will be selected jointly with the Ukrainian Football Association.
