The Ukrainian women's U-19 national team will play in Group A of the 2023 European Championship second round against Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland.
"The tournament will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark," said head coach of the Ukrainian women's youth team Valeriy Palamarzhuk in a comment on the official website of the UAF. "On April 5, we will face Sweden, on the 8th — the hosts, and on the 11th — Iceland. By the way, I started my career with the national team in qualification matches for the European Championship hosted by Denmark in 2018. Back then, the Ukrainian team of 17-year-olds secured third place but did not advance to the next round. If we finish third in April, that will be satisfactory as it would allow us to retain our spot in the elite division."
"Who do experts consider the favorite for the tournament in Denmark?"
"First and foremost, Sweden, who are trying to qualify for the final stage of the competition. The Ukrainian team will likely determine third place against Iceland, although we will certainly prepare seriously for our first two matches in Copenhagen."
Currently, my assistants and I are studying the opponents, and soon we will provide our girls with necessary information. They have plenty of time to properly prepare for the April tests.
By the way, the competition in Copenhagen will take place on artificial turf. That's why we plan to hold a three-day training camp in Lviv before traveling to Denmark, where we will train on such surfaces. It should also be noted that two spring rounds of the Ukrainian championship in the elite division, on March 18 and 25, will also be played on synthetic grass.
"Do you often communicate with your players?"
"Of course. I know that Ruslana Levchenko from 'Kryvbas' recently underwent surgery, but I hope she will recover in time to get back into shape. Also, I am aware that Sofia Lutsan, who previously played for Polish 'Medik,' is currently looking for a new team."
"How many players from the Ukrainian national team are going to Denmark in April?"
"20. Currently, there are 25 names on the extended list of candidates for the Ukrainian youth women's team. I hope we won't make any mistakes in our selection and that all the strongest players will avoid injuries so they can travel to Copenhagen."
