To your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00 on October 20, 2022 regarding the Russian invasion of our country.

Glory to Ukraine! The two hundred and thirty-ninth day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian nation against the Russian large-scale invasion has begun.

The enemy is trying to hold temporarily occupied territories, concentrating efforts on restraining actions of the Defense Forces at certain sectors, while not abandoning attempts to conduct offensive operations in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka directions.

During the day, units of the Defense Forces repelled attacks by occupiers in the areas of the villages of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region; Bakhmut, Bakhmutskoye, Klyshchyovka, Krasnogorivka, Novomykhailivka, Nevelske, Opitne and Mariinka, Donetsk region.

The enemy is shelling the positions of our troops along the line of contact, carrying out engineering equipment of defensive positions and sectors at certain directions, and conducting aerial reconnaissance. In violation of international humanitarian law, laws and customs of war, continues to inflict strikes on critical infrastructure and civilian housing.

During the day, the enemy inflicted 11 missile and 28 air strikes, carried out more than 65 shelling with multiple rocket launchers.

The areas of over 25 populated places were affected by the enemy's attacks. This includes Burshchyn in Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ladzhyhin in Vinnytsia region, Zelenodolsk in Dnipropetrovsk region, Severodonetsk, Slovyansk and Toreh in Donetsk region, Znakhrovo in Zaporizhzhya region, and Davydov Brid in Kherson region. For their crimes, the occupiers used cruise, air and anti-aircraft guided missiles. In addition, the enemy launched more than 10 unmanned aerial vehicles of Iranian manufacture Shahed-136, more than half of which — from the territory of the republic of Belarus.

On the Volynian, Polesian and Northern directions, the situation has not changed significantly.

At other sectors, the enemy carried out shelling:

on the Slobodzhanian direction — with various caliber artillery in the areas of the villages of Hoptivka, Grynykivka, Kolodyazhne, Krasnoe, Ohirceve and Strilechya, Kharkiv region;

on the Kupyansk and Lyman directions — with field and multiple rocket launchers in the areas of the villages of Berestove, Kyslivka, Pershotravneve, Kharkiv region; Kovalevka, Novoyegorivka, Novolubivka, Luhansk region and Zarychne, Toreh and Toriske, Donetsk region;

on the Bakhmut direction — with tanks and artillery in the areas of the villages of Andriyivka, Bakhmut, Bakhmutskoye, Bilohorivka, Zelenopillya, Klyshchyovka, Kurdyumivka, Pivnichne, Mayorivka, New York, Solydar and Yakovyvka, Donetsk region;

on the Avdiivka direction — with tanks, mortars, field and multiple rocket launchers in the areas of the villages of Avdiivka, Vodyane, Pereymayske, Opitne, Krasnogorivka, Mariinka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region.

On the Novopavlivsk and Zaporizhzhian directions, the enemy did not conduct active offensive operations. Inflicted shelling in the areas of over 20 populated places along the entire line of contact. Among them — Velyka Novosilka, Veremivka, Ugledar, Zolotaya Niva, Donetsk region and Mikhilske, Orhyiv and Chervone, Zaporizhzhya.

On the Southern Buzhian direction, the enemy continues to fortify defensive positions. To prevent our counteroffensive, shelling populated places along the entire line of contact.

According to available information, reinforcements from mobilized individuals have arrived in temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region. Numerous cases of looting and marauding are noted. It is not excluded that a significant number of the mentioned contingent came from places of deprivation of freedom.

According to preliminary information, the leadership of Iran and the Russian Federation agreed on sending personnel and instructors for the use of strike UAVs to the territory of the Russian Federation. In particular, it is known about the preparation of operators of already available UAVs Shahed-136 and prospective UAVs Arash-2.

There is a high probability that Russian occupiers will carry out shelling of civilian population in Kherson region. Thus, early on October 19 this year, a message was distributed in the temporarily occupied territory urging the evacuation of residents of Nova Kakhovka allegedly due to preparations for strikes from Ukrainian Armed Forces units.

According to updated information, as a result of Defense Force strikes over the past few days, damage to enemy manpower and equipment has been confirmed in Zaporizhzhia region — up to 150 servicemen were injured and about 15 units of armaments and military equipment were destroyed.

The aviation of Defense Forces carried out 10 strikes over the past day. Confirmed damage to six areas of concentration of weapons and military equipment, as well as four positions of enemy anti-aircraft missile systems. Anti-aircraft defense units shot down six cruise missiles, one Ka-52 helicopter and 16 UAVs, including 14 — Shahed-136 Iranian manufacture.

Rocket troops and artillery units inflicted damage to three command points, six areas of concentration of manpower, armaments and military equipment, one ammunition depot, a radio-electronic warfare station and six other important objects, including enemy bridges and pontoon crossings.
