President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, mentioning key words from the beginning of Russia's full-scale aggression.
"Great people of great Ukraine!
Exactly one hundred days ago we all woke up in a different reality. Exactly one hundred days ago others woke up too. When Ukrainians are woken not by the sun's rays, but by rocket explosions hitting our homes, then other Ukrainians wake up.
In 2014 Russia came to us with one word, a new word. And this word was "war." On February 24th, Russia added another word, making the phrase "full-scale war."
And for one hundred days we found or received, saw or wanted to erase other words. There are not many of them. They are different but reflect what we have experienced.
Among these words there are new ones for us. And those that were forgotten by our parents but which we had to remember. Well-known to everyone on the planet. And those that all people have to painfully remember with horror. Painful words. And those that truly give us hope. All of them — important. All will be correctly remembered today. One hundred days — one hundred words.
First and foremost, these are two words: "our heroes." That is, first and foremost — people who have been defending our state since the night of February 24th until today.
Then come Ukrainian words: "pylalitsia," "armed forces," "Stugna," "Cossack," "Zmiinyi" ... And, of course, "Chornobaivka" — this one word that has been heard many times and in which you can see everything — both about our resistance and about our enemies.
And also foreign words that have become dear to Ukraine: "Bayraktar," "Harpoon," "HIMARS," "Starlink," "Jeszow" ... And, of course, "Lend-Lease" — yet another word, just one, but which reflects one hundred days of struggle, one hundred days of diplomacy, and one hundred days of support.
And the word that reflects something important in our character. Specifically in Ukrainian character. "Javelins," which caused fear among enemies because they did not expect their armor would not save them. And then a smile — our smile — when Ukrainians even drew a "Holy Javelin."
And the word that everyone in Ukraine raises a glass to — "Neptune."
Every day new words appeared for us, which now mean much more than just words. Hard words. "Hostomel," "Borodyanka," "Ohtyrka," "Chernihiv," "Kharkiv," "Kherson," "Izium," "Melitopol," "Mariupol" and "Azovstal."
Along with them — "army," "artillery," "navy," "border guards," "reconnaissance," "national guard," "police," "territorial defense," "aviation," "our heroic pilots"... And also the word "ghost." The ghost of Kyiv. Which destroyed enemies and remained alive.
All these words we could have heard many times in our entire lives, but now hear every hundred days. And each time when we hear them, we know that they are giving us the time and opportunity to live as long as it is allotted to us. Alotted by God. Not by an enemy.
"God" — this word, this appeal has sounded more than once. And always particularly.
There were also words that our enemy wanted to erase. "Volnovakha" and "Salytvinka," "Popasna" and "Severodonetsk." These are the words we will definitely write again. But in our way. Just as with "Bucha." And just as with "Mariupol." And we will definitely write them next to the word "tribunal."
So that other words — "filtration," "deportation," "torture," "execution," "indiscriminate shelling," "missile strike" — would definitely receive an answer. An answer in just one word — "justice." Justice, which will be the period after our temporary words "occupation," "Mordor," and "orks." Of course, they will go out of our lexicon. We will certainly erase them from our land.
There were also words that gave hope and for which we fought especially hard. "Humanitarian corridors." Which became a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of people. And which allowed us to fight another terrible word — "blockade."
From the first day, with us are words, between which there is a distance — as between darkness and light. One word we avoid. This is the word "refugee." And thanks to another word, we believe that millions of our people have a future. It will be at home, in Ukraine. This word is "IDP" (internally displaced person).
Much has changed. When we hear the word "Patron," we remember the most famous sapper of Ukraine. And when we hear "marathon," we understand that it's not about sports at all.
And, of course, our lexicon brought in a lot of extremely dangerous words. That no Ukrainian or Ukrainian woman ever wanted to see. And what any normal person cannot bear. "Iskanders," "Kalibr," "Samp-loggers," "phosphorus bombs" and others.
Somehow we didn't see their much-vaunted tank "Armat." I think they were afraid of our new phrase "tractor army."
And one more phrase is worth remembering — "second largest army in the world." At first, it looked threatening. Then dangerous. After Bucha, it only repulsed. And now — maybe just a smirk. What's left of that? Of the army they called the second largest in the world... War crimes, shame and hatred.
And numbers instead of words. When you see every morning the number of dead. The number of wounded. The number of shelling incidents. The number of rockets. Next to the word "children" — a new number every day. Today it's 261. Already, 261 children have been killed by Russian aggression. For what? There are no words that can answer this question.
Words appeared that now are very frequent. That sound daily. But we must make it so that for our children they do not mean what they mean to us today. So that they can only perceive them as history. First of all, the word "ruins." And also — "siren," "air raid warning," "curfew," "checkpoint," "barbed wire." And the word "mines."
There will be many more words that everyone will know. That will make sense to everyone. And which will give a chance to millions. These are words like "reconstruction," "candidate status" and "membership," "guarantees" and "security." And definitely — the word "return." Of course, based on the dream that has become reality — "liberation."
These are the words of our future! These are the words about what we will do with our red poppy, with our glorious Ukraine.
Words about where the enemy's warship is heading. About what to do with occupiers when someone says: "Vova!" And, of course, our already popular — "Good evening, we are from Ukraine!"
From that Ukraine, where "the field blooms and she grows old." From that Ukraine which stood, stands, and will stand.
Of Ukraine whose glory and freedom have not yet died. Of Ukraine to which we say: "Glory!" Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the nation! And everyone knows the continuation — "Death to enemies!"
For there are three words for which, already one hundred days after eight years, we have been fighting: "peace," "victory," and "Ukraine."
Glory to Ukraine!
