The 46th Congress of the Union of European Football Associations was held in Vienna and discussed a whole range of important issues.
In his speech at the beginning of the working session, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, among other things, mentioned the role of football in resolving war and peace issues.
"Football, of course, brings us joy and emotions, which is its main task. But there are problems that football cannot solve. These are the problems that were previously discussed by Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas and Austrian Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler. Football cannot stop a war! We have now encountered a military conflict in Europe, something we haven't seen for a long time. When I became FIFA President, I never imagined that the situation in the world would be so sad."
"Football cannot stop a war, but it can contribute to peace, help, and demand peace. And this is exactly what I am doing here, just as I did at the last FIFA Congress. We must do everything we can for peace. So that it returns to Ukraine again. We need to help the victims of this war,"— said Gianni Infantino.
We remind you that a delegation from the Ukrainian Football Association, led by its president and UEFA Executive Committee member Andriy Pavelko, participated in the work of the 46th UEFA Congress remotely from Ukraine.
