In the first round of the elite qualification for Euro 2022, Ukraine's youth team (players born in 2005 or later) defeated Kosovo (2-0), and in the second match they lost to Poland (2-3). Today, Ukraine faces a tough challenge against the hosts — Italy.
What is Needed for Euro Qualification?
We remind you that to qualify for the final tournament, it's necessary to finish first or second in the group (in case of finishing second, one must have a better record than Hungary, which finished second in Group 1 with only one point and a goal difference of -2).
In case of equal points within the group, according to the regulations, head-to-head results are considered first. Given the situation, Ukraine's team needs to win against Italy. Then our team guarantees either first place or a qualifying second place (with three points). In case of a draw with Italy, we need Poland to lose to Kosovo. Then we finish second with four points. If Ukraine loses to Italy, they can qualify only if Kosovo beats Poland by two or three goals (only 3-0 or 4-1). This is necessary for our team to secure the second place and have three points over Kosovo, which would then be in third place.
