The blue-and-yellow team has not played in Genk before, but on March 27, 2018, they played a friendly match against Japan in Liège, which ended with their victory by a score of 2-1. In that encounter, the Japanese player Wada scored an own goal, and Oleksandr Karavaev also scored for the Ukrainian national team.
