Today, on October 29, Ukraine’s women’s national team played the return leg of the first-round playoff for the EURO 2025 qualifiers against Turkiye.
Four days earlier, the teams had drawn 1:1 in Istanbul. Thus, the battle for a spot in the second playoff round was decided today in Chișinău, where Ukraine was the nominal home team.
Early in the match, both teams exchanged shots on target, and in the 14th minute, Ukraine took the lead as Karataş deflected Basanska’s cross into the own net. In the 34th minute, Ukraine doubled their advantage when Shmatko capitalized on Kalinina’s pass after a rebound in front of the goal.
In the second half, Turkey created several chances, and the ball even found its way into Ukraine’s net, but the goal was ruled offside. Despite the pressure, Ukraine managed to hold on to the 2:0 victory.
With this result, Ukraine advances to the second playoff round, where they will face Belgium, who defeated Greece (0:0, 5:0 on aggregate). The matches for this stage are scheduled between November 27 and December 3.
