Today, Shakhtar Donetsk played their third match of the Champions League in London, which is being held in its new format for the first time.

After a draw in the first match against Bologna (0:0) and a loss to Atalanta in the second round (0:3), the Orange and Blacks faced Arsenal in a tough away game in the English capital.

Both halves were highly competitive, with plenty of chances for both teams. In the 29th minute, the hosts managed to break the deadlock. Martinelli cut in from the left wing, entered the penalty area, and after a second attempt, struck the near post. The ball ricocheted off the post and then off Riznyk, crossing the goal line for an own goal. In the closing stages, Shakhtar applied some pressure on the English side but couldn’t salvage the game.

Notably, Riznyk saved a penalty in the second half. Among Shakhtar's players, several from the Ukraine national team featured, including Konoplya, Bondar, Matviyenko, Kryskiv, Sudakov, and Zubkov (who was substituted in the 64th minute).

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Arsenal’s versatile Ukrainian player, remained on the bench for the entire match.
