Vorskla Poltava suffered a defeat against Scottish side Celtic in the first leg of the 2024/25 UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 2.
In the previous stage, the Ukrainian team triumphed in Group 10 of the Champions Path, defeating Latvian club RFS (5:0) and Hungarian side Ferencváros (2:0). Following the draw, Vorskla faced Celtic in the battle for a spot in the group stage.
Today, on September 22, Vorskla played their nominally home match, held in Airdrie. Celtic took the lead as early as the 5th minute, but the game remained competitive, with both teams creating several chances. In the second half, the Scots held a slight advantage, although Vorskla also failed to capitalize on their opportunities to equalize. The score remained unchanged at 1:0 in Celtic’s favor.
Vorskla will have a chance for redemption in the second leg, which will also take place in Airdrie on September 26 (kick-off at 21:15 Kyiv time).
The 12 winners from this round (seven from the Champions Path, and five from the League Path) will advance to the group stage, joining Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Lyon, and Chelsea, who have automatic spots.
Meanwhile, Kolos' run in the tournament ended in Round 1, where they lost to Dutch side Ajax (1:4) and Danish club Brøndby (1:2) in Group 1 of the League Path.
