Dynamo Kyiv failed to advance through the playoff round of the 2024/2025 UEFA Champions League qualification.
Last week, the Ukrainian side suffered a 0:2 defeat to RB Salzburg in Lublin. This left Dynamo with a challenging task in today's away match, where they needed a strong performance to secure a spot in the Champions League group stage.
Despite Dynamo's early activity, the hosts opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Kjaergaard passed to Daguin, who cut in from the edge of the box and slotted the ball into the right corner. Shortly after, Salzburg missed several attempts on Bushchan's goal, but the Dynamo goalkeeper saved a shot from Yeo.
Dynamo Kyiv soon took control of the match. In the 29th minute, Vanat equalized with a superb pass from Mykhavko, beating the goalkeeper. The White and Blues created several more chances before halftime but couldn't find a second goal.
Early in the second half, Vanat had a good chance but shot over the bar. Salzburg responded with a dangerous attack, but Bushchan managed to deal with it. In the 68th minute, Brazhko's long-range shot went just over the crossbar. In the 81st minute, Shaparenko played a one-two with Vanat, but his shot went wide of the post. Unfortunately, Dynamo couldn't achieve the result they needed, ending the match 1:1.
Dynamo Kyiv will now continue their European campaign in the UEFA Europa League group stage. The draw for this stage will take place on Friday, August 30, at 14:00 Kyiv time.
Several players called up by Serhiy Rebrov for Ukraine's September Nations League matches featured in the Dynamo lineup: Bushchan, Tymchyk (substituted in the 82nd minute), Popov (yellow card, substituted in the 82nd minute), Yarmolenko (substituted in the 67th minute), Shaparenko, Brazhko (substituted in the 74th minute), Kabaiev (substituted in the 74th minute), Pikhalyonok, Vanat (goal, yellow card).
