Today, on May 20, the Ukrainian U-17 national team (players born no later than 2007) will play their first match at the European Championship here. The game against Serbia starts at 6:00 PM.

At the group stage of Euro-2024 (U-17), the blue and yellow team will play in Group A against Serbia, Czech Republic, and Cyprus. The tournament involving 16 teams will take place from May 20 to June 5 on Cyprus — at six stadiums in Ayia Napa, Larnaca, Paralimni, and Limassol.

For the Ukrainian U-17 national team, this is their eleventh final tournament of the European Championship. For a long time these competitions were categorized as U-16 (up to and including 2001), but the essence has not changed much. It was precisely in the 1990s that Ukrainian boys showed their best results on an international level for U-16/U-17 — they won bronze medals in Ireland in 1994, after which they participated in three consecutive final tournaments (1996–1998), finishing third in each group.

After that, over the course of twenty years, our team has been in the finals six times. The last time was in 2017 in Croatia when coach Sergei Popov's players born in 2000 managed to win a game for the first time in two decades and climb above fourth place in their group.
