Comment from the UAFA Referees Committee regarding the interpretation by officials of specific game episodes in matches of the 18th and 19th rounds of the Vbet League-2023/2024

The Arbitration Committee of the Ukrainian Football Association explained interpretations of specific game episodes in matches of the 18th and 19th rounds Vbet League-2023/2024.

18 round

"LNZ" — "Kryvbas". Referee — Anastasiia Romanyuk. VAR — Oleksandr Omelchenko.

41 min.

Explanation: after a corner kick, the defender of "LNZ" plays the ball with his hand. The referee almost cannot see this handball and therefore VAR intervention is correct. The penalty kick was correctly awarded.

51 min.

Explanation: from a good position, the referee does not detect an obvious unsporting foul by player No. 10 of "LNZ". The offender should have received a warning.

We remind referees that being in such a good position, they must make correct decisions on the field and that protecting players' safety remains one of their main responsibilities!

"Dnipro-1" — "Minay". Referee — Oleksandr Kalyonov. VAR — Dmytro Bondarenko.

47 min.

Explanation: the hand of "Minay's" defender initially moves towards the ball and he tries to remove it only after contact with the ball. The referee almost cannot see this handball and therefore VAR intervention is correct. The penalty kick was correctly awarded.

"Zoria" — "Vorskla". Referee — Oleksandr Shandor. VAR — Dmytro Panchishin.

65 min.

Explanation: player No. 27 of "Vorskla" uses the studs on his boot to make a strong unsporting contact from behind with an opponent's leg, clearly endangering the safety of the opponent. The referee does not determine the seriousness of the foul. VAR correctly recommends PNP (on-field review), after which the referee correctly sends off the offender for a serious foul. We remind that when referees are in good positions, they must make correct decisions directly on the field.

19 round

"Minay" — "Metalist 1925". Referee — Roman Blava茨zych
