Maltese coach Michele Marcolini confirmed at the pre-match press conference that two key players of his team will not be able to play against Ukraine. These are forward Jody Jones and defensive midfielder Teddy Teuma.

Due to injuries, they did not participate in the previous qualification match against Italy (0:4) and have not recovered in time for the encounter with Ukraine. In their place, defender Steve Borg returns to the Maltese national team after a one-match suspension.
