On June 30 in Nyon, Switzerland, the draw for the first round of the Women's Champions League took place. For the first time in history, two Ukrainian teams are participating in these competitions—Poltava's "Vorskla" (successor to "Zhitlobud-2"), which plays in the Champions Path, and Kryvyi Rih's "Kryvbas," which competes in the League Path.
By the draw, "Vorskla" landed in Group 2, with matches taking place in Sarajevo, Bosnia. In the semifinals, the Poltavans overcame Estonia's "Flora" (4:3) after extra time, and then faced Croatia's "Osijek" in the final.
In the first half, the Ukrainians had a significant advantage on the field, resulting in goals from Andrukhiv and Kozlova. In the second half, the Croatians were unable to break through—3:0 in favor of the white-and-green team.
Thus, "Vorskla" won Group 2 and advanced to the second round of the Women's Champions League-2023/2024. The draw for this stage will take place on September 15. There, teams will be paired off and play each other home and away. Twelve winners from this stage will advance to the group stage where they will face "Barcelona," "Lyon," "Bayern Munich," and "Chelsea."
We remind you that "Kryvbas" ended up in Group 3, with matches taking place in Linköping, Sweden. There, in the semifinals, the Kryvyi Rih team lost to French "Paris" (0:4), and they will play for third place against the hosts from Linköping.
