In the 5th round of the Champions League group stage, Donetsk's 'Shakhtar' drew with Scottish 'Celtic' in Glasgow and secured their place in European competition this spring.

The players under Igor Yovichev approached the match with five points, placing them third in the group. Celtic had only earned a single point from their away game against Shakhtar. Consequently, an unbeaten result today in Glasgow guaranteed Shakhtar's place in European competition.

From the first minutes of the encounter, the Scottish side held the upper hand, frequently firing shots wide of the goal, including O'Riley who nearly curled one into the top corner. On the 34th minute, the hosts took the lead - after a cross from the flank, Yakumakis found himself in front of an open net and scored. 1:0.

Shortly thereafter, Trubin saved a dangerous long-range shot from the same Yakumakis. Near the end of the first half, Shakhtar created a chance - Traore set up Mudryk one-on-one with Hart, but Mykhailo failed to get past the goalkeeper.

After halftime, the miners added pressure and felt more confident on their opponent's half. Specifically, after Traore failed to break through, the ball fell to Zubkov who missed from close range. And at the 58th minute, Mudryk initiated a counterattack which he finished with an excellent shot under the crossbar. 1:1.

Shortly thereafter, Celtic had another chance to regain their lead but Trubin denied Furukhasi from inside the penalty area. On the 72nd minute, Shakhtar missed a golden opportunity when Mudryk broke past all defenders, yet Sikan somehow failed to score into an empty net from his teammate's pass.

Later, after another shot from O'Riley from outside the penalty area, Trubin had to make a save. On the 88th minute, the same O'Riley nearly scored in the far corner with a cross. However, the match ended in a draw. This means that the miners secured their place in European competition, and if they beat Leipzig in the next round, they will advance to the Champions League knockout stage.

In the Shakhtar lineup for the match were players who were called up for the most recent national team training camp: Trubin, Bondar (yellow card), Matviyenko (yellow card), Mykhailichenko, Stepanshenko (yellow card), Zubkov (yellow card), Mudryk (goal, substituted in 90th minute), Krivtsov (substituted on in the 90th minute).
