On February 24, after the start of the full-scale invasion by the Russian army in Ukraine, the UAF sent corresponding appeals to FIFA and UEFA regarding the importance of applying sanctions against representatives of the Russian Football Federation.

On February 28, FIFA and UEFA jointly decided that all Russian teams, whether national or club, would be excluded from participating in competitions under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA until further notice. Such decisions were then adopted by the FIFA Council Bureau and UEFA Executive Committee - the highest bodies responsible for making such urgent decisions within both organizations.

On May 2, the UEFA Executive Committee, with the aim of ensuring smooth conduct of tournaments in safe conditions, adopted a series of decisions as an addition to the previous resolution on February 28. Russia was excluded from all matches of the 2022/2023 season among youth, women's and men's club and national teams.

"The decision by UEFA is formally only about official matches. Therefore, this allows Russian football officials to negotiate possible friendly matches. However, the Ukrainian Football Association immediately reacts even to such attempts. So, very recently we wrote letters to FIFA and UEFA demanding that the match between Russia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, scheduled for November 19, be canceled. We also addressed the association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, urging them to show solidarity with all civilized football world and refuse participation in this game. There was also an appeal from the UEFA Executive Committee to colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as appeals from our football legends to players and coaches of the Bosnian team with a call to refuse to play the match."

An official decision on this game has not yet been made. But we are doing everything possible to prevent the match from taking place.

Similar actions we take regarding two friendly matches of women's teams of Serbia U-17 and Russia U-17, which were supposed to take place in October on the Balkans.

We are also now making efforts at UEFA level, whose goal is for Russia not to participate in the Euro 2024 qualification draw, which will be held on September 9 in Frankfurt am Main. The tournament itself, I remind you, will take place from June 14 to July 14, 2024 in Germany. A country that invaded cannot be represented in competitions where national teams participate, unlike Russia, which respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states. A country that, in the XXI century, before the eyes of the entire world, kills innocent women, children, and elderly people, strives to physically and mentally destroy an entire nation, our nation, must receive full isolation on the international arena, including in football! Until it stops committing its crimes and compensates for inflicted losses," — emphasized President of UAF, UEFA Executive Committee member Andriy Pavelko.
