According to the results of June matches, the women's national team of Ukraine lost their chances to qualify for the World Cup. However, just before two final games of the qualification round, head coach Luis Cortes stated that his players would fight for third place in the group.

The first step towards this was taken in Torshavn, where the Ukrainian team defeated the Faroe Islands national team at the local stadium "Torsvollur". Kunina scored a brace early on. The guests created several goal-scoring opportunities near the opponents' goal before halftime.

In the second half, Ukrainians had several moments to increase their lead, including a shot on the crossbar by Korsun and Khymych. However, Shmatko scored — in the 83rd minute after a set piece executed by Basanska. The match ended with a score of 3:0.
