On Friday, the blue-and-yellow team held an evening training session. As before, it took place on the lawn at the Cardiff City Football Club's Sports House.
All 22 outfield players and four goalkeepers present in the camp participated in the game series. Among them is Denis Popov, who recently recovered from an injury and is preparing with the main group.
"The team feels good both emotionally and physically because there was time for recovery. I think we will be ready to face Wales in optimal condition. I feel pretty good, have recovered. I would be very happy if I could help the national team."
Our desire is maximum. I don't know how to properly describe our upcoming match against Wales. Perhaps it's a game for life. We had a theory, watched the opponent and rehearsed combinations proposed by the coaching staff.
I saw fireworks from my window in honor of the queen's jubilee. But we can't celebrate holidays now. It was beautiful, but it's time to get back to work. The coach said that after a little celebration following the game, we need to prepare for the next one. We have an extremely important match ahead," Popov noted.
In the evening, the blue-and-yellow team gained another player. After training, Danilo Igнатenko was waiting for the boys in the lobby of the St. David's hotel and received his first call-up to the national team.
"The call-up to the national team came as a surprise to me. I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. It is a childhood dream, and I am very happy that it has come true. I know almost all of them; we played together in the Ukrainian championship at Shakhtar."
I did everything within my power to help Bordeaux in a difficult situation. It didn't work out entirely as planned, but I gave it my best. However, there are coaches, the press, and people who evaluate me.
We will compete because football is such a sport where two players cannot play on one position. Whoever is stronger will play. This is always good because competition makes you better.
I watched the match against Scotland. I really enjoyed the game; we completely outplayed our opponents, who had no chance at all, except maybe towards the end of the meeting, but that was not enough. I believe this is a 100% victory for Ukraine.
Wales is a very good opponent. The team is strong individually due to its players. However, I think we will analyze their strengths theoretically and try to neutralize them.
I hope that from the first match, I will be in the squad, but this decision is up to the coach. I have been waiting for this for a long time, so I want to train with the team," Igнатenko shared his impressions of being called up to the national team.
Let us remind you that the final match of the 2022 World Cup qualifier between Wales and Ukraine will take place on June 5 in Cardiff (kickoff at 19:00 Kyiv time).
