The Ukrainian Football Association has reached an agreement with the club "Borussia" (Mönchengladbach) regarding the conduct of a friendly match for the national team of Ukraine on May 11.
The game, whose start time will be agreed upon later, will take place at the club's stadium "Borussia Park," which accommodates 54,000 spectators. Ukrainian fans will be able to attend the match for free.
The coaching staff of the blue-and-yellow team led by Oleksandr Petrakov expresses gratitude to the leadership and coaching staff of the "Borussia" M club for the opportunity to play this game, which is an important element in preparing the national team for the World Cup 2022 playoffs and UEFA Nations League matches. It should be noted that Ukrainians will start preparing for these matches on April 2 at the training center of the Football Association of Slovenia near Ljubljana.
"Borussia" from Mönchengladbach is one of the most titled clubs in Germany. Die Fohlen (in Ukrainian, "Hinnies") have five times won the title of champions of Germany, three times won the German Cup and twice — the UEFA Cup. The club "Borussia Mönchengladbach" has over 37,000 registered members and is the sixth largest registered sports organization in Germany.
It is interesting that the arena "Borussia Park," built in 2004, became a prototype for the "Dnipro-Arena," which was constructed four years later. Another curious coincidence — just like the stadium in Dnipropetrovsk, its relative in Mönchengladbach was not chosen as an arena for Euro 2024 to be held in Germany. Also, "Borussia Park" was among the candidates for the status of a home arena for the World Cup 2006 and also did not make it into the list of hosts for the tournament, becoming the largest stadium in Germany among those that were not selected by the organizing committee of the competition. At the same time, "Borussia" from Mönchengladbach is one of the most visited clubs in Europe.
