From November 26 to December 2 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first round of Euro-2026 (WU-19) Group L will take place, where Ukraine's women's youth national team will face the hosts as well as teams from Romania and San Marino.

Head coach Oleh Bortnyk commented on the official website of the UAF about the latest news regarding the team:

— Before our departure to the Balkans, we held a short training camp in Uzhhorod. Almost all players who had already trained under my guidance at the end of August during the training session in Trostyanets were called up, including three foreign-based players.

— It is recalled that then your wards managed to play several friendly matches. And now?

— We planned to play against the local "Minay", but the Zakarpattian team unexpectedly went on vacation, so we had to limit ourselves to training.

On the other hand, there was no urgent need for a friendly match since all called-up players have sufficient playing experience at the club level. By the way, it was precisely playing experience that was prioritized when selecting potential candidates for the trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina. That is why "Ladomir" from the elite division has the most representatives in the squad, which is primarily composed of young players.

— Were key losses avoided?

— Unfortunately, Anastasiia Tarasenko from "Ladomir" and Anastasiia Zhigadlo from "Kryvbas", on whom I relied heavily.

— Who do you consider the main competitors in the fight for a return to the top tier?

— In my possession, there are only video recordings of recent friendly matches between Romanians and Swedes. Our geographical neighbors made quite an impression.

We will get acquainted with the other group participants directly during the matches. The seriousness of the hosts' intentions is evidenced by the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina will host next summer's Euro in this age category.

However, we are not intimidated. In Uzhhorod, we practiced several tactical setups and aim to surprise our opponents with home preparations. The attitude is maximum seriousness and fighting spirit.
