Tuesday, August 28 saw the draw for the main stage of UEFA Champions League. The 36 participating teams were divided into four pots according to their individual rankings.

For a second consecutive season, this stage of the Champions League features not a traditional group phase but a single-league round that includes all participating teams. Each club received two opponents from each pot and will play eight matches — four home and four away — against different rivals.

Players from Ukraine's national team will participate in this prestigious European club tournament: Illia Zabarnyi («Paris Saint-Germain»), Anatolii Trubin («Benfica»), Roman Yaremchuk («Olympiacos»), Andriy Lunin («Real Madrid»), Oleksandr Zinchenko («Arsenal»).

The top eight teams in the league automatically advance to the round of 16, while teams finishing from ninth to 24th will compete in two-legged playoffs for spots in the round of 16. Teams that finish from 25th to 36th will end their European competition.

The first round of the main stage will take place on September 16-17. The full Champions League calendar with match dates will be published no later than August 30. Hungary will host the tournament's final for the first time.
