In the opening match in San Salvador, Mykola Kostenko's protégés faced the tournament hosts. The Salvadorans opened the scoring in the second minute, but Oleg Zborovsky restored parity midway through the first period.

In the second 12-minute segment, initially Zborovsky completed his brace, and then Maxim Voytok extended the blue-and-yellow team's lead to two goals. Near the end of the period, the teams exchanged goals: Ruiz scored, but once again it was Zborovsky who responded — 4:2.

Unfortunately, our boys could not hold on to their victory. Under pressure in the third period, the hosts managed to even things out — 4:4. 

Overtime did not produce a winner, and in the penalty shootout, El Salvador emerged stronger — 3:1. Tomorrow night our team will play against Portugal.
