The first event within the project of the Ukrainian Football Association and the Volyn Football Association to support children affected by war took place in Turia, Volyn region, under the name "Open Football Lessons."

On behalf of the community, the organizer of the sports event was the education department of the Turia City Council, while local volunteers were led by sports instructor Yuriy Boris, who had previously attended a seminar organized by the UFA.

This sporting event gathered over seventy children on the Turia DYSZ stadium — students from Kupychiv, Solovychiv, Bobliv, Kulchyntsi, Novodvirivka, Makovichi and Turia lyceums. Additionally, participants included residents of the Lutsk inclusive football section.

The event was inaugurated by Vice President of the Volyn Football Association Vasyl Kohnovs'kyi, Mayor of Turia Oleksii Bezsmertnyi and Head of the Education Department Lyudmila Dyachuk.

For several hours, children engaged in six thematic sectors where they relaxed outdoors and simultaneously received an energy boost through football and useful information about their safety during wartime.

Small athletes were helped by volunteer coaches — PE teachers from educational institutions of the Turia community at locations with cones, balls, hula hoops, as well as in sectors "Football Game" and "Football Technique."

The children were interested in the safety corner, where DSN workers taught them rules of safe behavior during wartime. Also, they worked with school psychologists at the "Psychologist's Corner."

At the end, all participants received sports equipment, certificates and t-shirts from the project by UFA.

The Ukrainian Football Association and regional football associations' "Open Football Lessons" project, supported by UEFA, is:

  • psychosocial support for children of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, children of internally displaced persons (IDPs), and children affected by war;
  • unity and friendship between IDP children and local children, social integration;
  • inclusive environment — participation regardless of ability level, gender, as well as inclusion of children with special educational needs;
  • safety knowledge in wartime conditions;
  • philosophy of mass football — joy from the game instead of any price for results;
  • nurturing a healthy lifestyle;
  • volunteering development;
  • activation of local communities through cross-sector networks (teachers, coaches, psychologists, safety experts, parents, youth leaders, local authorities, patrons, etc.).

All project events are held in regions with the approval of regional military administrations.
