Ukraine U-19 team dominates Switzerland and secures spot in final tournament of Euro 2024!
Today, March 26th, Ukraine's youth national football team concluded their campaign in the Euro 2024 (U-19) elite qualifying round.
Previously, under the guidance of coach Dmytro Mykhailenko, the team secured wins against North Macedonia (2:0) and Latvia (3:0). The Swiss team also claimed two victories, but their goal difference was inferior. Therefore, a draw in today's match in Skopje was sufficient for the Ukrainians to clinch the top spot in the group and qualify for Euro.
At the start of the match, Matkevych's header tested the Swiss goalkeeper, and shortly after, another attempt by him was blocked. The Swiss responded with a dangerous free-kick near the post. In the 26th minute, Synchuk shot from a sharp angle, but Huber saved his team. Towards the end of the first half, a header by Mykhavko went over the bar. Just before halftime, Beney took advantage of a mistake by Ukrainian defenders, but his shot was saved by Krapyvtsov.
In the 55th minute, Beney again found himself in a good position but missed the target. The Ukrainians responded with a dangerous shot from Synchuk, which Huber saved. However, in the 63rd minute, Synchuk intercepted the ball near the opponent's penalty area and this time struck accurately, opening the scoring.
Swiss attempts to equalize quickly proved futile. Instead, in the 68th minute, after a pass from Krevsun, Ponomarenko beat the goalkeeper and scored into an empty net. Later, Matviy scored a double, taking advantage of a brilliant pass from Mykhavko from the center of the field. In the end, the Ukrainian team secured victory with a score of 3:0.
As a result, our boys achieved three victories, topped the group, and qualified for the European Championship, which will take place from July 15 to 28 in Northern Ireland, with the participation of eight national teams. The draw for the final tournament will take place on April 17 in Belfast.
