Ukraine national team striker Roman Yaremchuk along with head coach Sergiy Rebrov participated in a press conference ahead of the final match of the Euro-2024 qualification playoff against Iceland.

— Do you have any pre-game rituals?

— I don't have any rituals. You need to prepare well throughout the week and be a professional. That's my ritual.

— Oleksandr Karavaev said that there is no room for error tomorrow. Is it easy to get into this mindset?

— I think we should talk less in the press about how this is a match of our lives and that we must win. We need to do more on the field than talk. Everyone understands the importance of the game. 

— In the past, Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk were usually represented in the national team, but now players from various clubs are called up. Is this a plus or minus for the team?

— Of course, it's a plus for our country because we represent some of the best leagues in the world. It's difficult for the coaching staff to put us all together into one system within just a few days so that we think alike on the field. It's certainly harder for the coaches, but the level of players has risen. However, I'll repeat, we need to show this on the pitch because we didn't demonstrate our level in the previous match. We have to show it here as there will be many supporters and a very important game.

— Who is the leader in the locker room of the national team?

— There's currently a generational shift, with younger players coming up. Of course, we really miss Taras Stepanenko and Andriy Yarmolenko in the dressing room for their leadership qualities. But now there are many people performing at high levels who can guide.

— Some players said that you had an open conversation among yourselves…

— Yes, we talked about the experience after Scotland. We were euphoric because we were one step away from the World Cup. And in the match against Wales, we disappointed the whole country and then went around complaining. There was such a conversation to ensure it doesn't happen again. Everyone took things very seriously, forgot the Bosnia game, went to the hotel, focused on the next game. The situation in our country does not allow us to celebrate now. We need to cheer up supporters and guys who are holding the front.
