The International Football Federation Association (FIFA) Council announced that the U-17 World Championship will be expanded to include 48 teams and will be held annually rather than every two years.

The International Football Association Board (FIFA) has announced that the U-17 World Cup will be expanded to 48 teams and held annually instead of every two years.

This was announced on the official FIFA website. This decision reflects the firm commitment of world football's governing body to youth competitions.

Starting from 2025, the next five U-17 World Cups will be hosted by Qatar, while Morocco will host the first women's WU-17 World Cup in that period. Women’s competitions will also be expanded (to 24 teams) and held annually.

This decision was made following a global call to focus on the use of existing football infrastructure for the efficiency and sustainability of youth tournaments.
