EURO-2024 (U-17): Ukraine starts elite round with victory over Greece
Today, the Ukraine U-17 team (players born no later than 2007) kicked off their campaign in the elite round qualifiers for Euro 2024 among players under 17 years old with a match against Greece.
Following the draw for the elite round, the blue-yellow team found themselves in Group 4 alongside Greece, Switzerland, and Slovakia. The opening match, led by coach Yuriy Moroz, took place against the hosts, Greece, at the Kostas Davourlis Stadium in the city of Patras.
The first half saw the Greeks dominating, launching several shots at Makarenko's goal, although our goalkeeper also had to be alert.
In the 51st minute, Greece was reduced to ten men as Mokris received a second yellow card. The initiative shifted to our team, and although the hosts held on for a while, the blue-yellow team eventually broke through. In the 75th minute, Redushko opened the scoring from Drahan's assist, and later, Bogdanov converted a penalty in the 80th minute.
As a result, Yuriy Moroz's team started with a victory — 2:0. Our next match will be against Switzerland on March 9.
