On November 21, the Ukraine U-21 national team defeated Azerbaijan (1:0) in a Euro 2025 qualification match and with five wins out of five games is now comfortably at the top of Group F. After the game the players shared their impressions.
Ruslan Neschyret (goalkeeper): "It was a tough match, perhaps because Azerbaijan defended very well. There were moments we should have capitalized on, crossing opportunities. We deserved the win, but our opponents are also a good team that plays well. I think this result is justified. We achieved the goal set by the coach. I believe we played flawlessly in these five matches before the winter break. So everything is super."
Volodymyr Brahyko (halfback): "There were problems on the field, many opportunities were not converted. We need to work on converting chances and improving our defense because every opponent creates us problems. We need to develop further and keep working.
I knew I would score a penalty despite Azerbaijan's attempts to foul me. But I ignored it and calmly scored. Of course, it feels good, but we want the team to score more. In the last minutes there were moments near our goal that were very dangerous."
When you win on the run, it adds more responsibility. If you are in first place, there is even more motivation to keep working and winning every match directly to qualify for Euro."
Kostiantyn Vychcharenko (defender): "We can divide the game into two stages. The first half was better in rhythm and quality of play, in the second we kind of sat back and didn't attack as much. The coach congratulated us on the win and our zero goal record. Of course, there is room for improvement. He said he was worried but we won – that's the most important thing. A great result, a fantastic job by the team and coaching staff. Everyone is satisfied with how we ended this year with a victory."
