In previous matches, the miners conceded to "Porto" (1:3) and beat "Antwerp" (3:2). Now, however, the orange-and-black team traveled as guests to "Barcelona". This was the first match for Shakhtar's new head coach — Marino Pušić.

The Ukrainians offered their game to the hosts at the start of the encounter, but the Catalans quickly established full control over the course of events. The first moment arose in the 8th minute when Lopes failed to outplay Riznik after a mistake by the miners near their own goal. Shakhtar responded with a shot from Zubkov in the corner — the ball was caught by Ter Stegen.

Later, Riznik saved another dangerous shot from Cancelo. However, on the 28th minute, Barcelona did score — after Gundogan's cross, Lopes hit the post and Torres put it in. Shortly thereafter, the blue-and-garnet team doubled their lead — Lopes scored powerfully from the penalty line.

At the start of the second half, Riznik parried shots by Felix and Alonso; later, Torres sent the ball into the net but was offside. On the 62nd minute, Shakhtar surprisingly scored — the right flank of Barcelona's defense failed, Azarov launched Sudakov to the penalty area, who outmaneuvered Ter Stegen.

On the 69th minute, after a long shot by Lopes, the orange-and-black team was saved by the post. In the next attack, Lopes headed in Alonso's cross, but the referee canceled the goal for offside. Towards the end of the match, the guests noticeably increased their efforts, but their shots went wide, including Stepansky after a cross from Azarov, who shot past the post near the goalpost. Ultimately, Barcelona held onto their winning result — 2:1.

In Shakhtar's lineup for the match were players called up to the national team in October: Riznik, Konoplya (yellow card), Matviyenko, Stepansky (substituted on 90+2 minute), Zubkov, Sudakov (goal).
