President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, speaking about the need to preserve the memory of Babi Yar victims and the evil that carried out the Holocaust, as well as those who carry out one of the most honorable missions in life — teaching children.

I began it with events at Babi Yar.

82nd anniversary of the mass shootings of Jews by Nazis in Babi Yar.

Just a few quiet days in September 1941 saw over 30,000 people killed. In total, about 100,000 people were killed at Babi Yar during the Nazi occupation. Jews, also Roma, Ukrainians, representatives of other nations.

It is very important to preserve the memory of these victims and the evil that carried out the Holocaust, which was defeated and punished.

Ukraine preserves such a memory. "Never again!" for us, for Ukraine, for the entire civilized world — this is not empty words. And it will always be so.

It is very symbolic that today I met with our Ukrainian teachers — those who are responsible for preserving historical memory and much of humaneness.

This Sunday Ukraine will celebrate Teacher's Day — the day of education workers.

I thanked all Ukrainian teachers, educators, lecturers, mentors today. All those who carry out one of the most honorable missions in life — teaching children what is necessary to avoid wasting their lives and be strong on life's path.

But education is always more than acquiring knowledge and skills and mastering a profession. It is also character, its strength. It is clarity in distinguishing between good and evil, which comes when you study human culture.

Education prepares and reinforces the moral compass of a person so that it works and enriches people's lives through this work. This is very important.

And we see, especially because of what Russia does, what happens when an education system collapses. When the moral compass of people and society as a whole breaks down. Evil then reigns in such a country.

This will never happen in Ukraine. Not only thanks to the strength of our weapons but also thanks to the strength of our spirit, the strength of Ukrainian characters, which will surely triumph.

This week has significantly strengthened our state and its people. There will be important news for Ukraine tomorrow — for our soldiers, for all of our country.

We are working to add strength to Ukraine in the coming weeks — internal strength — and necessary cooperation with the world. So that the world hears us, understands us, and supports us. I thank everyone who helps!
